Horses on the Slopes of Titaros
Our horses are based at Lanari Farm — the stone refuge at 1,400m, 1.3km from the guesthouse. From there the rides set out: organised excursions through the forest trails of Titaros, or quiet walks along the path, depending on your pace.
The Vlach families of Livadi have ridden these slopes for centuries — moving flocks, carrying goods, climbing to the high pastures. The route, the surroundings, and the kind of horse haven't changed much. What we offer is that same ride, with a guide who knows the trails.
Our Trail Rides
We offer several curated routes that showcase the most beautiful aspects of the Olympus foothills. Each ride is accompanied by an experienced local guide who shares the history, mythology, and ecology of the mountain along the way.
- Discovery Ride (1 hour) -- A gentle introduction along forest paths near Livadi. Perfect for beginners and families with children aged 8 and above.
- Forest Trail Ride (2 hours) -- Journey deeper into the Olympus forest, crossing streams and reaching a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Enipeas gorge.
- Mountain Explorer (3-4 hours) -- Our signature ride for experienced riders. Ascend through diverse landscapes to reach alpine meadows with breathtaking panoramic views of the Thermaikos Gulf.
- Sunset Ride (1.5 hours) -- A magical evening ride timed to witness the sun setting behind the peaks of Olympus. Includes a stop with local wine and cheese.
What to Expect
Safety Briefing
Every ride begins with a thorough safety introduction and basic riding instruction. Our guides assess each rider's comfort level and match them with the ideal horse.
All Equipment Provided
Helmets, riding boots (if needed), and all necessary equipment are provided. We recommend wearing long trousers and comfortable layers suitable for the mountain climate.
Small Groups
To ensure a personal and intimate experience, rides are limited to groups of six. Private rides for couples and families can also be arranged upon request.
Practical Information
- Season: March through November (weather permitting)
- Minimum age: 8 years for group rides, 6 years for private family rides
- Maximum weight: 100 kg per rider
- Meeting point: Lanari Traditional Guesthouse reception, or direct transfer to the stables (5-minute drive)
- What to bring: Sunscreen, a light jacket, camera, and a sense of adventure
- Booking: Advance reservation required, minimum 24 hours before departure
