Traditional Meals in the Kafeneia of Livadi

Livadi Olympou — with its rich culinary tradition and its Vlach heritage — offers visitors a range of traditional meals to enjoy at the village's kafeneia and tavernas.

Food here isn't a menu. It's the continuation of the village's pastoral economy, cooked the way it has always been cooked: with the village's own cheeses, the village's own tsipouro, and lamb from the flocks on the mountain.

Local Dishes

Stone path in Livadi's central square in summer, where the traditional kafeneia are

Lahanodolmades

Stuffed cabbage rolls with rice and minced meat, cooked in tomato or lemon sauce.

Keftedakia

Crisp, well-seasoned meatballs, usually served with fried potatoes on the side.

Psita tis Oras (Grilled to Order)

A range of grilled meats — chicken, pork, lamb — served with salads and traditional pies.

Souvla

Meat slow-cooked on the spit, served with pies and salads.

Mageirefta (Home-Cooked Dishes)

In the village kafeneia you'll also find proper home-cooked food — stifado, fasolada — prepared with fresh local ingredients.

Local Products

Dairy

Livadi is known for its exceptional cheeses — feta, mizithra, kefalotyri, and xynotyri — used in salads or in traditional pies.

Tsipouro

The local tsipouro is popular and is poured alongside meals. Its quality comes from the altitude and the climate — Livadi's tsipouro is sought after well beyond the region. October–November is distilling season: the stills are boiling, and the village clarinet bands (Livadiotika klarina) play late.

Under the Plane Tree

All of this is paired with the authentic atmosphere of Livadi's kafeneia, where you don't just eat — you sit and stay, under the centuries-old plane tree of the central square.

From Lanari, the square is a few minutes' walk. The kafeneia keep all-day hours — morning coffee, midday mageirefta, grilled meat in the evening, tsipouro whenever someone offers.
